A fireplace insert slides into your existing fireplace opening—it uses the masonry or prefab box you already have and converts it into a sealed, high-efficiency heat source. A new fireplace requires building a new opening, framing, and venting from scratch. If you already have a fireplace that’s old, drafty, or failing inspections, an insert is almost always the faster, more affordable path to reliable heat.

Most insert installations in the Tahoe area range from $3,000 to $8,000 depending on the fuel type, the condition of your existing fireplace, and whether you need a new liner or gas line. Gas inserts tend to fall in the middle of that range. In most cases, yes. Inserts are designed to fit standard masonry and prefab fireplace openings, and they come in a range of sizes. During your in-home visit, our team measures your opening, checks the chimney condition, and confirms exactly which units will work. If your opening is non-standard, we’ll walk you through your options—there’s almost always a solution.

Gas logs give you the look of a fire, but they produce almost no usable heat—most of it goes straight up the chimney. They also leave your fireplace unsealed, which means drafts, heat loss, and ongoing chimney maintenance. For a similar price, a gas insert gives you real heat, a sealed firebox, and far lower long-term costs.
